Why Marc Lasry Sold the Bucks—And What He Sees Next in Sports Investing

27 May 2025

Marc Lasry, former co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, discussed his decision to sell his 25% stake in the team and his future plans in sports investing during an interview with Front Office Sports. Lasry cited several factors influencing his decision to sell, including the increasing costs associated with maintaining the team, the aging roster, and uncertainties regarding star player Giannis Antetokounmpo's future with the franchise. He acknowledged that these elements played a role in his choice to divest at that time.

Looking ahead, Lasry expressed interest in raising a sports fund focused on investing in smaller sports teams, particularly in regions like Africa, Europe, and Asia, as well as in women's sports. He believes that these areas present significant opportunities for growth and value appreciation.
